CHEMICAL PEELS AT S3 SKIN AND LASER

What is a Chemical peel?

Today there are lots different acids used in different strengths and combinations to improve skin problems. Peels are used to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin, blemishes, acne scarring, wrinkles, rosacea, and pigmentation problems. There are three different types of chemical peel treatments available at S3 skin and laser.

AHA Peels

Alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) is a mild form of chemical peel and is a good alternative to the TCA peel treatment if you cannot afford to set aside the time required following that treatment to recover. AHA peel works to remove skin that has become dry, rough, or covered with pigmentations thanks to the chemicals contained within the AHA peel including glycolic, lactic and fruit acids. AHA Peel can also help to treat fine wrinkles and acne.

The AHA peel is administered through a short and simple procedure usually lasting 10-15 minutes. The chemical agent is applied to the skin following a cleansing of the skin to remove impurities. The condition of the skin will have an effect on the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results.

Once treatment is complete you will have skin that is more elastic, smoother and rid of wrinkles. Acne scars, discolouration and oily skin will also become things of the past. Following treatment you should not apply anything to the skin for a minimal of 3 hours, and make sure of sunscreen and hats.

TCA Easy Peels

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in different concentrations, but is usually used for medium-depth peeling. TCA works by causing older cells that cover the skin to dry up and shed away days later. This in turn leads to the exposure of a new and undamaged layer of skin.

TCA is administered to the skin in single sessions, each one lasting around 20-30 minutes. You are likely to feel a minor burning sensation during treatment but there is no need for sedation as the sensation is so minor. Each person's skin is different. Therefore, you may need more than one application of TCA Easy Peel to achieve the results you desire.

TCA acid will penetrate the skin much faster and deeper producing quicker and more dramatic results therefore the result of TCA peel produces more dramatic results than AHA peels.

Following treatment the new layer of undamaged skin exposed by the TCA treatment may be sensitive to direct sunlight for a period of around 8 weeks. It is therefore necessary for you to avoid strong sunlight and to protect this new layer of skin with sunscreen and hats.

ICP Peel

Innovation Concept Peel (ICP) is a superficial form of peel that works to eliminate freckles, pigmented scars and signs of ageing. ICP is also able to improve areas of skin that have become damaged due to sun damage. The active ingredients in ICP are salicylic acid, kojic acid, hydroquinone and phytonadione, ideally suited to improve the quality and life of skin.

ICP works by removing older skin from the surface and allowing new and undamaged skin to come through. Treatment involves the skin first being cleansed of grease and then the application of a special mask to the skin, which is left on for between 2-8 hours. Length of treatment will depend on the condition of the skin.

When the mask is removed skin will likely appear slightly red and there is the chance of mild peeling over the next few days. You may also experience a certain level of itching but any side-effects are minimal.
